The new index number to be rolled out during the 2019 BECE examination is a combination of three (3) distinct set of codes to facilitate easy identification of candidates.

It is made up of the school code of the candidate, which is the first seven (7) digits of the 12 digits index number. The next three digits of the 12 digits index number are the codes that will uniquely identifies the candidate for a particular school while the last two digits which are the newly added digits represent the year of the examination. Thus this year’s index numbers no matter the school in which a candidate wrote the examination will end with 19 which represents the year 2019.

The Ghana Education Service has therefore entreated all head teachers, teachers, candidates, parents and the general public to take note and help sensitize the public especially candidates for the upcoming examination.

The new index numbers will be pre-printed on the objective test answer sheets for all candidates and all they will be expected to do is to shade through the 12 digits index number allocated to them for the examination.

The registration for the BECE 2019 which entered the second phase this week will require candidates and parents with the help of school authorities to make school selections as well as input the continuous assessment data of the candidates of the schools registered during the phase one of the registration.

If a candidate was registered for the 2019 BECE and had a system generated index number of 0101687005, with the introduction of the new 12 digits index number for the 2019 BECE, the candidate’s index number will now be 010168700719.
